First bookings taken for the beautiful Barff House
New venue was love at first sight for brides-to-be
In January we
were delighted to announce our partnership with Louisianna’s Weddings to bring
the idyllic Barff House, in Brandesburton, to the market as a delightful new
countryside wedding venue. Now, we are even more excited to say that Barff
House has taken its first bookings!
We had a quick chat with two couples who are thrilled to have secured a dream venue for their big day.
Emily and Adam
Emily Gill, 29, and Adam Spry, 31, (pictured below) might live and work in Leeds but they had their hearts set on finding an East Yorkshire venue for their wedding as they both grew up in the area and many of their family and friends still live there.
The couple were at secondary school together but didn’t become an item until they’d both left university. Eight years on, a 2017 Christmas proposal lent an extra sprinkle of joy to their usual festive celebrations and they wasted no time at all in seeking out potential places to hold their special day.
Emily said: “My mum was helping me look for venues, I knew I wanted somewhere rural and not too formal.
“Mum arranged a few viewings all on the same day, Barff House was the last one we visited and straight away I knew I loved it. It’s exactly what I wanted, with the rustic setting, the woodland, and the barn. It’s so pretty.
“I also like the fact Barff House will only be hosting a few weddings each year, it makes it feel more exclusive,” she added.
“It’s lovely that we will have the place to ourselves all day and evening, and we’ve also booked to stay overnight in the Shepherd’s Hut ‘honeymoon’ accommodation.”
Emily and Adam will be married at the church in Etton on Saturday July 27, 2019, before making their way to Barff House for their marquee reception and party in the barn.
Danielle and Nick
Bride-to-be Danielle Bromley admits she doesn’t follow the conventional rule book when it comes to romance. The 38-year-old from Driffield, in East Yorkshire, met her fiancé Nick, 35, eight years ago by complete fluke.
“Nick was looking on Facebook for an old schoolfriend called Danielle, and my profile popped up in the search. He says he just liked the look of me, so clicked the ‘friend’ button,” Danielle explained. “I was intrigued and before long, we were chatting online and getting along really well, so we arranged to meet up. I went to visit him in Essex, where he lived, and when it was time for me to come home I didn’t want to leave him behind and asked him if he’d like to join me. He said yes, and he’s been here ever since!”
A true whirlwind romance, Nick dropped everything to be with Danielle along with her young daughter Charlotte and made East Yorkshire his new home. Danielle added: “I just knew he was the one, and life’s too short not to take chances.”
Both partners, who work in the IT industry, were overjoyed when their family grew three years ago with the arrival of little Caitlin. And there were more joyous surprises in store – a festive trip to Edinburgh at the end of 2016 included Nick’s proposal of marriage at the city’s famous castle, which Danielle gleefully accepted, but what they weren’t aware of at the time was that she was six weeks pregnant!
Wedding plans were put on hold while baby Georgie made her arrival (weighing a glorious 10lb8!) then when life settled down, Danielle was able to turn her attention to organising her big day.
Danielle knew she wanted an autumn wedding, with a clear vision of a rich colour scheme, a bonfire around which guests could warm themselves, and thrilling fireworks. This immediately ruled out a number of venues so the search was on to find the perfect location and excitement levels began to rise when Danielle’s best friend Kat sent her a Facebook link about Barff House.
“I rang Louisianna’s Weddings straight away and booked an appointment. As soon as I arrived I knew this was it,” said Danielle. “It was exactly what I wanted, a ceremony outdoors, the barn, the archway, the gardens, the woodland, with space for a bonfire and no issues with fireworks, it was perfect! The owner was so friendly too, and really excited about making our big day a success.”
Danielle and Nick’s special day is booked for September 28, 2019. “It’s great that the whole package is taken care of, I only need to sort out catering and the decorations,” added Danielle.
The on-site accommodation was also a big attraction, and Danielle plans to spend not just her wedding night there but also the preceding evening. “It will be such a beautiful, relaxed place to get ready with my bridesmaids,” she added. Best friend Kat, sister Terry, and daughter Charlotte will be bridesmaids, while younger daughters Caitlin and Georgie will perform flower girl duties. The couple have yet to confirm when and where they will fulfil the legal side of the marriage, but hope it will be Beverley register office on same day as their big celebration at Barff House.
“Nick and I have kind of done everything in the wrong order,” Danielle laughed, “but at least we are moving forward and the wedding is finally in the diary!”
We’re very much looking forward to working with all Barff House couples as they plan their celebrations, and we’re sure the intervening months to the big day will absolutely fly by!
