Celebrating milestone birthday in style

We love nothing better than a party at Village Farm Marquees. It’s always a great pleasure to help shape an occasion that brings family members together for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

And Katy and Iggy Penna’s 50th birthday celebration at their home in August 2016 was among the most fun examples we’ve worked on.

Rain does not stop play!

The couple live in Swanland, East Yorkshire, with their daughters Oli and Isi and run their own medical supplies business. Working with one of our favourite event stylists, Cherry Williams, they chose a pink and silver theme, with fairy lights in the roof and on topiary trees at ground level. A band provided their entertainment.

Katy said: “We wanted to throw a party for friends and family and chose Village Farm Marquees from a range of suppliers because we like Tony and Chrysta as people, and were really impressed with their helpfulness and professionalism.

“Our instincts were right and we were delighted with the way they took care of everything – right down to replacing the carpets at the last minute because exceptionally rainy weather soaked our original ones.”

Attention to detail

We helped the couple pull their event together in under six months, recommending our trusted suppliers for aspects like catering.

Katy said: “We wanted all the people we love and care about to come along to celebrate with us, and have a great time and everything was exactly as we would have wanted it to be.

“It was all the little things Tony and Chrysta did along the way. They were really sympathetic towards what we wanted to achieve and answered any queries we had.”

She concluded: “This was a really big occasion for our family. It could have been a stressful thing to organise but Tony and Chrysta’s attention to detail took the worry away so that we could concentrate on enjoying the occasion with all the people who matter most to us.”

Chrysta Newman, Village Farm Marquees Co-director, said: “Parties that celebrate major milestones in people’s lives must be memorable but they should also be as enjoyable for the hosts as they are for the guests.

“We aim to take the headache out of the whole process by helping you every step of the way.”

We all know how unpredictable British summers can be, and the last thing any bride-to-be wants on her big day is rain (even if she does have a lovely big weatherproof marquee!). But every now and then we’re treated to an impeccable summer’s day, blessed with blue skies, glorious sunshine and gentle breezes – and that was Mother Nature’s gift to Amelia and Olly, who were married on June 17, 2022, in the gardens of Amelia’s parents’ home near York.

As everyone knows, the coronavirus pandemic has sadly wreaked havoc on people’s lives in many different ways, including by disrupting major personal events such as weddings. Couples around the country have experienced endless heartache as their longed-for, meticulously planned nuptials have had to be cancelled, in some cases – such as Heather Wilkie and Tom O’Donnell’s – no less than three times. So in the end it was fourth time lucky for the North Ferriby couple, who overcame all the hurdles to finally become man and wife on August 7, 2021. And what a day it was!

Where do I begin? It’s certainly been a rollercoaster of a year for us all, never mind couples like ourselves, after months of planning and dreaming of our special day, having to postpone until a later date.

London couple Tiffaney Kaulmann and Stuart Alexander first set eyes on each other 10 years ago across a crowded dancefloor in glamorous city nightclub, Movida. They might have only been aged 18 and 23 at the time, but it was love at first sight and from that moment on their destiny was sealed.

Now usually with our wedding blogs, we tend to talk to the bride about the experience of her big day, and the groom unfortunately doesn’t get much of a look-in! But on this occasion, we will follow the lead of a couple who created a unique day that truly reflected their personalities, their love for one another, and their strong sense of family, and let John Haw tell his wonderful story.
