Bringing the outside in with a clear marquee
Making the most of the views and the light
Outdoor weddings are something we’ve talked about in a previous blog, and their popularity really is soaring in the UK now. This is largely thanks to venues and suppliers such as ourselves being able to offer increasingly sophisticated solutions to what has historically been the biggest barrier to outdoor events in this country – the weather!
A marquee is perhaps nothing particularly new but what is fresh on the scene is a marquee with a completely clear roof and clear walls too, and Village Farm Marquees are one of the very few companies in the region to be able to offer this to clients.
Fans of Pinterest will have seen clear roof marquees featuring quite predominantly in the US and they sprang to the UK wedding world’s attention last year as Pippa Middleton, sister of Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, erected an enormous orangery-style structure in the grounds of her family home for her wedding celebration, so naturally they’ve become something of a trend.
A versatile product
We showcased the clear marquee at a recent wedding fayre held by Bride Beautiful at Elsham Hall, where it received a lot of interest as more and more couples are booking outdoor weddings at the gorgeous countryside venue.
“The clear PVC looks pretty much just like glass, and when combined with the clear walls the overall feel is similar to a conservatory,” Chrysta added. “The beauty of this is it really allows you to appreciate the views, especially if your event is being held somewhere like Elsham Hall where the lake and gardens offer an absolutely stunning environment. It creates a feeling of being outside even though you’re inside.”
The clear roofs are extremely versatile and can be combined with clear walls and gables to not only add light, but can maximize amazing views and create impact. “There are so many options,” said Chrysta. “You could use clear roofs and walls on the entrance to create a lovely light, airy feel as people come in to the marquee, or have a clear gable end to focus on a view and maximise light, or a fully clear roof can be softened with voile drapes to diffuse the light. There are lots of different and exciting ways to dress a marquee of this type.”
Keeping your cool
And clear marquees are not just for summer, when in fact things can get a tad warm if the sun’s out and it can be a good idea to use an air conditioning unit to regulate the temperature. They’re not only for weddings either – they can add a touch of something special to corporate events too.
Chrysta added: “In winter, clever lighting and dressing can really give them the wow factor. Think LED lighting, fake snow, comfy furniture and fur throws. Outdoor bars are really popular at corporate and other events and using a clear marquee can create an ‘ice bar’ feel, but with the benefit of our ultra efficient heaters.
“We always offer our clients a completely personalised service and we’re more than happy to advise how this new style of marquee could work for you.”
